The most that it will do is burn part of the roots closest to the application. The higher the support the better, as the flowers can hang down for the best effect. Trumpet vine is not nice.

Trumpet vine is not nice. Vines are covered with heavy dark green toothed foliage and cling readily to any support. The seeds from my orange trumpet vine do a pretty good job of popping up all over my yard. Trumpet vines (campsis radicans) have beautiful orange flowers that attract hummingbirds, but the vines can get aggressive unless pruned regularly.
